The Twitter Trend
First and foremost this will be the last time this week I reference Twitter.
In the span of a week I feel the world has sort of left Facebook to opt for status updates of 140 characters. Now this isn’t to say that everyone is on board with the Twitter madness but my roommate, Catherine, said something that I thought important enough to include in this social networking entry.
“Facebook is your past. MySpace is your present. Twitter is your future.”
Obviously I had no clue what she was talking about, but she made sense of it for me.
Facebook has all the people from High School (and some from Elementary) keeping in touch. MySpace contains music you’ve searched for yourself and are keeping yourself up to date on things you like right now. Twitter updates you on things you had no idea existed from famous people that you would never hang out with in the world. Twitter also doesn’t really keep you in touch with your pals (even though it can of course) but moreso updates and interesting bites of information that you may find relevant for whatever. Even a blog entry.
But is it really better? If Facebook has status updates, isn’t Twitter redundant? Again, these are status updates from people you probably talk to once or twice a year, whereas on Twitter you may receive a cool video from Steve Buscemi!
And maybe you don’t care about these celebrities and things like that but I’ll bet you’ll jump on board like you caved with Facebook and MySpace and MSN and all the other social tools online before this one. If you want to join up, visit www.twitter.com now.
